There is no record of exactly where or who started the game we know as pool its origins are believed to be in the early 1900s by this time billiards was well established so somewhere someone created a variation of it. The first main recording of its rules and name was in 1925 when it was called b.b.c.co.pool by an American billiard table manufacturer called Brunswick balke colander. This company had been making billiard tables since 1848 and now seen the potential of pool tables as the game was becoming more popular and became the first maker of American Pool Tables.

The game itself has variations in different countries but is most popular in America. The standard competition size table is 9foot x 4.5foot and with 6 pockets. There are 16 balls used in this game one white which is the cue or object ball and 1 black ball or 8 ball. The other 14 are split into two groups of seven with each either coloured differently usually red and yellow or numbered 1 to 7 solid in colour and 9 to 15 with a coloured band. These differences are because America uses numbers and Britain just uses colours. The balls are placed in a triangle in a certain order and in the american game the front ball goes on the table spot but in britain the black ball goes on the spot. To play the first player breaks the balls and 4 must hit cushions or a ball must sink for the shot to be legal. The object is to pot all the similar balls to the one you first pot and then pot the black to win. Potting the black early loses you the game. Players change turns when no ball or the opponents ball are potted.
